Their chat was permeated by a short pause, as he didn’t respond to Patience immediately. She surprised him for the second time that evening; at first for attending the event, and now having endeared a part of herself he wasn’t expecting. Perhaps the spirited approach she took to spying didn’t translate well outside of the shadows, and the antagonistic nerves she withheld crept up from time to time. In an odd sense he found this very humanizing…for a supernatural.
Before he could answer her, however, the chief’s voice suddenly echoed over his radio. The orders were given firmly and with no perceived haste. Still, he drew to attention immediately and surveyed the room to identify the positions of the other officers. Yet it was only when Harper crossed into his line of sight did he feel a pacifying measure of relief. They all wouldn’t have time to touch base it seemed, but at this very moment there presumably wasn’t a need to. He figured this was a precautionary patrol set up by their hosts. Or maybe they figured the department needed to at least look busy for all the expense. Either way, whoever was overlooking the security room could probably use a break, and he didn’t mind escaping from the fanfare of the crowd for a while.
As Dom turned back around to face Patience, he was surprised to see that the young Animalian had disappeared. The split-second lull in their conversation had given her enough time to slip away; maybe having found their chat lacking and choosing to move on to another pursuit. A tinge of disappointment flickered across his expression. This was how she normally ended their meetings, but there was usually a cheeky remark to accompany her flight -a signal that they were still on solid terms. Then again, he was probably overthinking things.
In the meantime he headed for the double doors leading into the grey stairwell at the end of the building. From there, the security room was easily accessible from their position. A reflective thought crossed his mind about what Jasmine had said earlier. Their summons to the security room, while an easy task, did elicit a shred of uncertainty in his mind. At the time of their meeting the woman nurtured a reserved look about her, but maybe there was something to her warning that he underestimated. Nodding over to his partner in the escapade, a younger recruit named Nicholas, Dom waited patiently for the other officer to join him at the doors.
