Biran, Son of Ulf [Mission] (Closed)

Really? Did his father really have to ask these dumb questions in the middle of hunting? For some reason it must of been important though so he'd just answer as his father asked him to. "The deer would have more resources to gather from out of the other two, father. And it would make a good supper for us both tonight, rather than a small hare or a tough dingo." The answer wasn't really that complicated, but since the man asked Biran figured it must not of been a wise choice to go for the deer. Biran would sigh softly to himself and just continue with his task.

A fine answer indeed. His son was not going after the deer because it was easy, but rather because it was of better use than the other two options. Biran was going to grow up to be fine young man indeed. Ulf could not wait to see what kind of man his son would become in his later years. If only he would know now that in a short few years his son would leave him for bigger and better things. If only he could see just how short his son's time with him truly was. But he did not have that kind of foresight. He was not seer. As of now, he was just making sure that his son could make it through his ceremony without fear of him failing.

The two walked on, following the path laid out to them by the deer in question. The silence grew as Ulf knew they were getting closer. There was no reason to make a sound now. Entering the thickets, the two quietly moved their way into a position that would allow Biran to get a good angle in order to shoot the deer. Or rather, a deer. This one that they had been following had led them to a herd. Both does and bucks could be seen, the only question was which one Biran could take down. Or for that matter, if he could take one down. Without speaking, Ulf stayed back and allowed his son to do duty and shoot down the deer. Or a deer. Cutting too many down was not practical for his small frame, but also could harm the herd and other animals who hunted them. You took only what you needed. No more.

Regardless, Ulf waited to see if his son could take down either a doe or buck.

After a long time of following the tracks the deer left behind, they finally lead the hunter to his quarry. Not just one singular deer, oh no. There was a whole herd! Biran considered himself more lucky than skilled at this moment though and didn't let the find go to his head. The battle had only just begun now as there was still a lot of work left to do. The boy watched the herd for a long time and tried to single out his target.

There was a long thought process when choosing the right prey out of an entire herd. Did any of them look particularly weak or frail already? Were any too young? Even the sex of the creature was important, especially during mating season, as it was this day. Killing one pregnant doe could ruin the delicate scale of the wilderness' ecology. Of course, in a case of desperation there was no no choice in the matter, but here and now, Biran had plenty of choices. Does would be out of the question.

Now that he knew he was looking for bucks, it was a matter of choosing which one. There was a mix of strong young bucks, a few veterans, and even one old stag. The oldest looking male out of the bunch was actually the most impressive out of all of them, grizzled with age yet still very strong. Truth be told he probably still had a lot of life left in him and would be tough to bring down. His size and his horns were all too tempting for the young man to take for himself though. One well placed shot and this could be an easy hunt or a real challenge. The same was true for any hunt, so Biran figured it was a good chance to take.

Proficient Talent: Sharpshooting

'Proficient' :

While Biran had taken the old stag as his quarry, it was not meant to be. The line up for the shot was great, yet something had happened. Maybe Biran had too much pressure and crumbled, or maybe he stepped on a twig and alerted the masses. No. None of those. Biran had been too careful. He did, however, sneeze at the wrong time. Yes. A simple sneeze at the wrong time could ruin an entire hunt. It had happened just as he was moments away from letting the arrow go. The whirlwind of a sneeze encompassed his entire self, causing him to move his hands up, and his head down. When the young man had let go of the arrow, it shot up rather than straight.

The arrow rang true and landed with a thud, sticking into a tree well above the stag's head. This sudden attack caused the herd to run into different directions and scatter. It also made Ulf take in a deep sigh. Something like this was what he had feared. Knowing his son, he would go after the biggest and meanest animal he could find and attack. If he hunted like this, he surely would find himself on the wrong end of nature. More than likely in the bellies of many animals. The thought alone chilled the man to his very core. No. Not his son. Ulf would never allow that to happen to his perfect son. He stood. "Come."

The older man walked out into the more open thicket where the deer were just at a moment ago. Looking up, the arrow was a good ways in the tree. Well, better to get it down. And a lesson he could teach his son about being careful. "When hunting, your weapons are important to you. Finding your arrows are just as important as keeping your blades sharp. If you run out of arrows, your bow is completely useless." The tree didn't seem that hard to climb. And a little climbing never hurt anyone. Again, a good lesson for Biran at the moment. "Retrieve your arrow and we will go follow one of the scattered deer."

He sneezed. He seriously just...sneezed? At a time like this, he fucking sneezed! The boy was so disappointed with himself in that moment, that he blew his shot (literally) just because of a sneeze. But no man in the world could control bodily functions and his father must of understood that right? Wrong. Biran didn't even have to look at his father to just here the disappointment in his single word.

Again, Biran did as the man said and walked with him to the tree that the arrow became lodged in. The boy felt insulted, like Ulf had to take him back to basics just for this one stupid mistake. Of course he knew how important his resources and his ammunition were, and the importance of keeping these resources readily available. Biran would sigh and attempt to climb the tree, no protest from him.

Unproficient Talent: Climb

'Unproficient ' :

Ulf watched as his son started his climb. And he watched as his son came crashing down a moment later. He had just slipped, Ulf assured himself. Just as he had sneezed. These things took practice. And patience. Lots of patience. More than Biran would more than likely want to give. No matter. The arrow needed to be retrieved and they were wasting valuable time. Ascending the tree, Ulf reached the arrow and yanked it out. And with it, he returned safely to the ground. It was time to get back on track. They had a deer to track down.

Handing his son's arrow back to him, Ulf motioned for Biran to follow him back to the area the deer had originally been grazing upon. Lucky for them, the tracks were going to be easy to find and follow. Running after this heard after it scattered would prove an easy task. Though, the question was which way to turn. The majority  had gone one way, but there were a few who had gone running the other direction. Looking down at his son, Ulf asked a simple question."Do you want to follow the herd, or go and attempt to track down a single quarry?" The option was once again left up to Biran. This was his trial run before the real hunt came. Whatever he decided to do was up to him and Ulf would stand behind him 100%.

Biran would sigh as his father made climbing look so easy. Of course, Ulf had years of practice under his belt and the boy knew such skills came with time. He felt insignificant though. Discouraged now, Biran would try one more time. From the top. He ventured this time to find the herd.
