Retrieve the Package (Level 1) [Mission]

The Mission: Retrieve the package
Level: 1
Employment: Valentines, Free agent, Citizen
The Details: Do not look inside. Just pick up the package from the post office and bring it to the Valentine’s mansion and give it to the housekeeper. I repeat, do not look inside, do not ask questions, do not give it to anyone other than the housekeeper. Just pick up the damn package, keep the package safe and bring it here. Yes, there might be someone after you, but just do your mission and your life should be spared… Unless you look inside. Then you suffer the consequences.

Lynn stepped into the post office and scanned the small room.  As she waited in line, she silently analyzed the other four occupants.  Two haggard looking women were behind the counter, both wearing expressions that clearly stated they would rather be anywhere but at work.  One of them was sorting packages with a scowl that appeared to be a permanent expression while the other argued with a man at the counter.

The woman next in line kept sighing loudly in exasperation until finally the man left in a huff.  He was significantly displeased with whatever answer he received from the clerk and flung the front door wide open in anger on his way out.  The passive aggressive woman in front of Lynn was called up to the counter and Lynn stepped to the front of the line.

After a few seconds, the package clerk looked up and met Lynn's eye.  Without a word, she waved Lynn to approach the counter.

"Picking up?" The woman's voice was dry and almost monotone.  Her name tag read "Mary."

Lynn nodded once and slipped a piece of paper from her pocket towards Mary.  The clerk glanced from the paper to Lynn once, reached underneath the counter and handed her a small box wrapped in brown paper.

"Have a good day," Mary recited without looking up from the computer.

Lynn didn't respond.  She slipped the package into her purse and left the building.

As she started down the sidewalk, she momentarily wondered what was in the box.  It was much smaller than she'd expected.  She pushed her curiosity aside as she pressed the pedestrian traffic button at the intersection.  Her job was to deliver the box, not question what was in it.  In the 30 seconds it took for the screen to begin blinking the "walk" signal, she had already successfully turned off her curiosity.

The ever-bustling streets of downtown Twin City are alive and bustling under the mid-morning overcast, some people even carrying umbrellas just in case. It’s a bit muggy in the city, temperatures at about 80 degrees and humid, the threat of rain just barely kept at bay and people just waiting for the clouds to burst. The smells of the city waft through the air along with the lingering scents of breakfast, bakeries selling their breads and bagels while butcher shops still have bacon before the transition to their lunch menus. There are so many people that it can be a little bit difficult to concentrate on any one thing, however, and while most of the time people keep to themselves, you were also warned that people might be after this package. If you continue the way you’re going, you’ll have to pass through the busy streets of Twin City, crowded with the people that make it easy to blend into the crowd but also making you more likely to get pickpocketed by a skilled thief if they are indeed after you for this package. You have another option of going the longer route, less hectic where you stick out a little bit more, but not nearly as busy, meaning you can keep a better eye on your possessions. The choice is left up to you, but whatever your choice, you'll need to roll an awareness skill, please.

'Proficient' :

The busiest part of the city is packed to the brim with people, you can hardly get through without brushing against at least one or two people, but no one really stands out too much aside from one person who is leaning against the bus stop terminal as if waiting for a bus, but his eyes scanned the crowd every now and again until he makes eye contact with you, but he averts his gaze like it’s nothing. However, he seems to give off a weird vibe that others have noticed and strangely give him a breadth of space, no one every touching him as they do others.

Though he is the only one that stands out in the crowd, under your hand that is over the opening to your purse, you feel a bit of extra warmth, much hotter than the 80-degree weather outside. Please roll an athletics or some form of dodge.

'Proficient' :

Your eyes seem to be rather caught on the shady man that you hardly notice the fact that your bag is heating up. Not only that, but you also aren't able to move away from someone who comes up behind you yelling as he throws a bucket of water on you, though you are able to turn to see him just in time to watch the water splash all over you. A few people stop for a moment around you, but that guy is looking at you with wide eyes. "Your bag was smokin', lady." He exclaims for a moment. If you choose to look, indeed, your bag is smoking as if it was almost on fire. He's still giving you a really concerned look as he walks backward before turning and running from you into the crowd.

As you open the bag and look inside, you see that the paper around the packaging is slightly charred and still smoldering, but it looks like the water put it out for now. As you dig into your bag, you feel the box heating up once more and strangely... It feels like it's trembling slightly, even moving a little bit. But it doesn't seem like anyone is paying attention to you anymore, even the guy that was leaning against the bus stop is gone.

You may continue on your way without a roll unless you want to take a look around or something along those lines.
