It's the middle of February. I know, late to update. But if you couldn't tell, there is no major event running along the Grand Ball. As well, we are going to start pushing more with the grand event. We don't want to exactly hurry everything along, but we do want action to start happening! Feel free to continue to post and enjoy it. Watch out for the drama that is about to go down~

Race: Dragonborn

Origin: Former dragons which developed humanoid features over time.

Today's life: Dragonborn tend to be the elites of society, and unlike most other elites nearly all the clans have gotten to where they are due to honest means, thanks to strict cultural rules that value true competition above all else. They tend to be quite elitist and turn away from other races in favour of islotation, making them rather despised among the common folk and even among other elites. Their biggest vice is an addictive attraction towards gold, which while not having negative impact on their physical health, is considered to be equivalent to drugs. The one saving grace among them is that, being the sticklers for the rules and tradition that they are, Dragonborn are almost always honest. Sometimes even to a hurtful degree.
Defining Features: Dragonborn can come in a variety of sizes, usually similar to a human or somewhat bigger, and sometimes they might or might not have wings depending on the clan (but are almost always vestigial and flightless) but what really sets them apart is that each clan has an elemental attribute, such as fire, lightning, air, et cetera, that they are potent in. These elemental attributes can never mix into one Dragonborn, however, and a Dragonborn's clan is thus determined by which elemental affinity they are born with. In rare cases they can be born with an affinity that neither parent has, thus making them effectively part of a different clan, though among some circles this could be seen as a joyous occasion.
Being already a hybrid form of humanoid and a dragon, they can't adopt a human form on their own, though for the sake of public relations they may turn to the magic services of Twin City in order to give themselves a human appearance. Even so, most Dragonborn choose not to hide their draconic roots, such as wings or scales, or even their full appearance whenever given the opportunity. Dragonborn do not consider themselves a lesser version of Dragons, nor do they pride themselves on their Draconic origin; instead they consider themselves excellent as they are, sometimes even superior, and more often than not have heated rivalries with Dragons themselves.

Natural Ability: Depending on their elemental affinity, a dragon can channel the element in one of several ways:
They can breathe it out as a weapon, i.e. Fire breath.
They can supercharge their bodies with their element to give them protection from environmental effects. The less popular option as this could result in damaging their clothes or belongings, but more experienced welders of such power are more than capable of bypassing that.
They can coat something they touch with the element to channel that affinity on their behalf, such as turning a pipe into a stun rod with electric affinity, or using poison affinity to make someone outside the clan handling an enchanted object succumb to illness if they attempt to steal the item.
They can use their affinity to travel, such as a gust of wind to push themselves upward or rocket propulsion with flames, regardless of whether they have wings or not. Alternatively other dragon clans can use less traditional affinities, like acid, to corrode blockades to pass through, such as walls or melt surfaces for a foothold, or a poison affinity to immediately cause a crowd to separate from the source for quick passage.

Details::Dragonborn are distant descendants of dragons, a humanoid draconic race that nowadays bears little in common with their dragon kin except a common root. Dragonborn as a race can vary wildly in beliefs and behaviors as a result of their clans, but there are several pillars that, without question, all Dragonborn clans uphold:

A Dragonborn always puts their family first, though this more specifically refers to their family's social standing as opposed to well being, though that has been open to interpretation. More often than not, a Dragonborn would far sooner expect their kin to die whilst bringing their clan honor than to have them live and shame it, and would similarly take drastic measures upon themselves to keep their family's good name intact.

A Dragonborn prides themselves in their capabilities and almost never offers or especially asks for help. Nothing prevents them from helping those in need of assistance when asked, though they will often see such a request as a sign of weakness and an opportunity to prove their own superiority. Indeed, Dragonborns can be quite elitist and prone to nepotism, and more often than not are, though unlike some other races those who manage to compete with them earn their respect and admiration, fragile though it may be. Similarly, if a clan member fails to succeed on their own, they are seen as disgraceful.

A Dragonborn values function over fashion, be it magical or technological but almost never both. Whatever the application or craft, even in the art world, a Dragonborn will always value anything that has an effective use or showcases possible future uses of the same technology, and their artwork tends to be ugly to look at as a result. They tend to see traditional art as a waste of time or quaint, as they see no use in such frivolous nonsense, and their value arbitrary. This could be as a result of their inexplicable addictive tendencies towards gold, which seems to be a holdover from their dragon ancestors.

All Dragonborn suffer from an addictive attraction towards gold and treasure, and thus take great care in disciplining themselves to develop a sense of self-control around it. Being in possession of such things to a Dragonborn is akin to being in possession of drugs, and is considered as equally disgraceful. Jewelry is similarly seen as unbelievably indecent, more so than even walking naked in public. Though gold does not cause negative effects on their health, it does easily lead them astray and can be used as a means to either manipulate them or drive them mad with desire, thus turning them away from their society's main tenants and bringing shame upon them.

Finally, Dragonborn rarely concern themselves with other races beyond financial affairs, and instead focus on other Dragonborn clans. Among them they hold a healthy competition, as they believe that is the way to true progress, and as such rarely cheat or actively sabotage the competition. Despite their overall amicable relations, on the flip side they almost never help each other as a result, as if the methods of the other clans aren't enough to keep up with the other clans then they see those methods as worthless and should be abandoned and just let nature take its course.

Outliers always exist among individuals, as some Dragonborn can abandon their clan's teachings, but never among clans themselves. To date, there has been no criminal faction among the Dragonborn because of their rigid social structure, and thus are well regarded for their honesty, but with time anything can change.
