Biran, Son of Ulf [Mission] (Closed)

Biran followed the tracks of the herd and crept up to an open field by a watering hole. There were many groups of deer standing around one another, though one had ventured off further than all the rest. A younger buck, about a year old by the way the antlers looked. His back was facing Biran and Ulf, but that did not stop him from lifting his head to look around for danger. Finding nothing, as of now,  he returned to his grazing, moving ever so slightly away from the herd. The thing about deer were they  weren't smart. After running away and finding everything is safe, they would sit around and graze or relax. Sure, they were good at fending off normal predators. Humans and other things like that? Well they were just not as good as facing Dingos. Biran had his shot regardless.

Biran was back on track, at least until he would decide to mess this shot up. Hopefully he wouldn't, but things were seeming a little bleak for the boy. He still had his father beside him though, which meant Ulf didn't give up on him. Yet anyway. It'd probably take one more screw up and dad would be gone, leaving his son in the wilderness so he could go find or make a better heir or something. Biran would huff a bit at the thought, thinking it possible for his father's character. Regardless, he'd take aim and let the arrow fly when ready.

'Proficient' :

The shot was done so beautifully, even your father had to give you credit where credit was due. As the arrow left your hand, for a moment, you felt that oneness your father has been speaking out for ages. How hunting is a sacred bond between hunter and hunted. That the moment you take an animal's life, you are taking on everything that the creature has bestowed upon you. His sacrifice has allowed you to have clothing on your back, food in your belly, weapons to hunt, and so much more. This animal has given his life to you, and it is your duty to honor the fallen. Before this moment, you thought your father was just crazy for going up to the animal and saying a small pray and thanks for its life. Now? Now it has suddenly clicked. Without this deer, you would be nothing.

Ulf's hand came to rest upon Biran's shoulder as a proud smile lit up his face, looking at the deer his perfect son has taken down. "You did well, Biran. Come, let us honor the fallen." Ushering you forward, Ulf got down on one knee and said a small prayer to the animals before taking out his knife and starting the skinning process. As he did, he continued to speak. "As you know, when you are on your coming of age ceremony, you will be tasked to go out and find a worthy animal to hunt and return with. We will be giving you from sunrise to sunrise to complete this task. What you have just proven to me is that you are ready for any hunt. However, as my son, others will judge you on exactly what it is you will be bringing back much harsher than that of other children." In this moment, Ulf wanted to say to his son that he did not need to go out there and fight the biggest and most deadly creature out there. Yet, saying that would only wound his son's pride and drive him out there anyway.It was a delicate issue and no matter how Ulf sliced it, it was not going to come out well.

Finishing up cutting the guts out of the deer, Ulf looked to his son. "I will require you to find us a good location to sleep tonight." This task that he had presented Biran was not a difficult matter, just a pressing one. A safe location meant good water source, easy to build a sleeping structure, and build a fire. Was it asking Biran a lot? Nonsense. This was something Biran was going to have to figure out in six short months. Better get it done now rather than have him stress out on it later.

It was an odd but almost liberating feeling as everything suddenly clicked together in one flawless shot that brought the creature to such a graceful demise. And exactly that, how could something like death be graceful? Well, Biran pulled it off. The boy startled a bit at the touch of his father, after being in such a long train of thought. Not only that, but the gesture was unexpected entirely. His father seldom encouraged his son and especially gave him praise. This must of been a dream, none of this seemed real for a time.

After staring awhile in bewilderment, Biran listened to his father prattle on to him. The boy already knew what would be asked of him on the day of his right of passage. This had been what he was training for since he came into his father's care. But is was the tail end of his father's speech that had a little more of a differing turn. The man was basically saying that his son better be the best. That's what Biran made of it anyway. Of course he would bring back the best trophy though, he already planned on it.

The next set of instruction was to find a good place to rest for the night. And so that was what Biran would do.

'Proficient' :

Biran had managed to find a very suitable place to stop and rest as Ulf carried the feer that the young Biran had shot. It was at this point that Ulf had put his worries of his son managing to make it through his coming of age ceremony with flying colors. Though his first attempt was a complete and utter failure, the young boy had managed to follow through and stick to it until the very end. The result? The boy had taken down a young buck; feeding not only himself, but Ulf and the rest of the village back at home. If Biran's mother was here, Ulf knew from the bottom of his heart she would be proud of her child.

Setting the deer down, Ulf started a fire. The two were going to be staying here the night, so the hard work was done. While Ulf was taking over from this point on, he did his best to show his son some last minute pointers. After all, it was only six months before his boy turned into a man. Though he was not sure if he could handle it, he was going to have to deal with it. Biran was quickly coming into his manhood. Ulf could no longer baby him and protect him. Well...at least in six months. For now he would do everything in his power to hold onto his perfect little boy without being too over powering. Well, at least attempt.
