Picking up The Groceries (Level 1) (Closed)

"Right, no veggies," Julianna will mumble as moments later the lady is throwing the list away. "List, who needs a list?" her voice will crack with dread from the potential of wandering the aisles of the store aimlessly for hours.

'Proficient' :

Though the store was crowded with what seemed like millions of people, over all Juliana had done well to move around the store, snagging everything that Barbra had asked her to. And at this point, Juliana's small basket was getting heavier and heavier. And you wold think Barbra would be done by now, no? Wrong. Oh so very wrong. Getting to the checkout lane, which by the way was very packed, Barbra glanced over at Julianna and spoke. "I am so glad you are helping me get the items I need to make a peach pie!"

It would be at this time Julianna would recall there was no peaches in that small basket she had over flowing. What was more, the lines were filling up. At least 2 more people were behind you. Really, these people needed to have some kind of life and not be here at this point. But that was beside the point. Julianna would have to make a decision. Either run and get the peaches herself, leaving old woman Barbra in line, or take her out and wheelchair her over, grab them, and come back to the lines. It was her choice, but something needed to be done now if a peach pie was to be made.

2. Take Barbra with you roll a percentile.

Noticing the lack of peaches despite her desire to make a peach pie, Julianna winced. "Peach pie. Well, then you'd be needing peaches. I don't know how we overlooked that." This was becoming painful, but it was nearly over. She knew it had to be. With more people getting in line behind them, Julianna knew better than separating herself from Barbra to keep her place in line. It would save time, no doubt. However, too many things could go wrong. Barbra could have a memory lapse. She could reach the register too quickly before she had her peaches. She might get knocked into or injured. No, it was going to get done the long and hard way. "Peaches, here we come!" She wheeled Barbra toward the fruits and veggies; hoping it was the last thing that was needed.

'Percentile' : 70

Luck, this time, was on Julianna's side. Taking Barbra out of the line and heading to the fruit, she was able to wheel her there and back with record time. Again, her luck was good. Though it took a few minutes to run back with the old woman, no one had taken their spot in the line. Though, shortly after everyone seemed to be coming to check out. Great timing, honestly.

And so, the duo managed to get to the front of the line without much of an issue. Her groceries were being placed upon the belt and scanned and a total was called for. It was at this time that Barbra squinted at the grand total amount and shook her head. "This can't be...that can't be right. That is too much money. I'm not paying that much money for all of this. The prices went up since yesterday!"

The people behind you start groaning and complaining about old people. Why do old people always have to hold up the lines? Without fail it seemed like.

1. Persuade Barbra that is the correct amount
2. Find a way to lower the price with keeping the same amount of items there.

Julianna considered letting Barbra fight this dispute out herself. And for a moment, she did. However, she quickly realized that this was not going to end well if she didn't step in and try to diplomatically resolve the issue.

"Barbra, my darling?" Julianna started in the sweetest of caring tones. "Don't you remember? I took you the store a while back and these items prices haven't changed recently. I know because you brought it up that visit as well and they explained to us that the prices had been increased a few months back due to inflation." Julianna decided to play on her own strengths in acting and the lady's faulty memory due to age. "Once it was explained to you, you were okay with paying the total last visit because the price change then made sense."

'Proficient' :

Barbra was not fully set on that. In fact, she started to complain. "No. I really do think they are charging too much and I refuse to pay that much money for it." It was then that the woman behind you groaned loudly.


"You're holding up the line, old woman. Some of us have better things to do." Without so much as an excuse me, the younger looking woman walked up and threw cash down on the register that was more than enough to pay for those groceries. "Here. Now go and take your grandma with you."

Barbra, taking the hint, shut her mouth and allowed for the rude woman to continue and pay for her food. Once the transaction was done and over with, and once all the bags were loaded up and you were on your way out, she finally opened her mouth. "She has a bad attitude. Someone should give her a swift spanking. That would straighten her up real fast. You know back in my day, women were seen, not heard. If she keeps that up, she is going to be a lonely old woman with not even cats to keep her company. No one will love her."

When Julianna's attempt to move things along backfired, she cringed. Her breathing stopped when she heard the groan from behind them. However, she was relieved when the lady stepped forward to pay for the bill. That was a lot better than she had expected. In fact, to Julianna, it was a blessing considering her day so far. "Thank you! That was very sweet of you," Julianna replied to the disgruntled woman. Julianna's eyes conveyed gratitude beyond her tone as she was subtly conveying that the old lady wasn't the easiest to deal with.

This wasn't her grandma, but Julianna wasn't about to correct a disgruntled lady paying for a bill that "grandma" wasn't prepared to pay. If Julianna were to pay, it would make her job escorting the elderly lady pointless. She was doing this for money, after all; not as charity.

As Barbra and her moved out of earshot, Barbra began to complain about the woman who just paid for the bill. Ungrateful, Julianna thought. However, she was not about to say a word of this to her employer. Instead, she opted to change the topic. "Well, that was a crowd for sure! Now just to get you home. It's been a pleasure spending time with you today." Was it flattery? Partially. But Julianna did mean it on some level. She felt like a good person helping out the irritating old woman. And, afterall, elderly deserve to be obnoxious and irritating. After losing loved ones, some attractiveness, and bodily functions, they need to have something going for them. So lack of tact it is.
